Alyssa Sands

Hi, I am Alyssa! I am queer identifying clinician who primarily works with LGBTQIA+ folks and survivors of trauma. My goal is always to create an affirming, judgment-free space where you don’t have to spend half of the session explaining who you are before we can actually talk about what’s going on. Whether you’re dealing with anxiety, trauma, relationships, identity, boundaries, or simply trying to figure out why you keep ending up in the same situations, we can work through it together.

My approach is collaborative, trauma-informed, and flexible. I draw from CBT, trauma-focused CBT, psychodynamic, IFS, narrative, and art therapy approaches; collaborating with you in choosing what makes sense for you rather than forcing everyone into the same therapeutic box. I’ll give you space to vent, help you untangle the thoughts that are keeping you stuck, and gently challenge you when it might be time to look at something differently. And we will probably have a good laugh or with each other along the way. Therapy can be hard work without being painfully serious every second.

When I’m not working, you can usually find me swimming, hiking, reading, checking out a concert or show, or exploring somewhere new. I also have a cat, who contributes absolutely nothing to my clinical work but remains an important part of my personal support system.

Therapy is a place where you should be able to feel safe, heard, and genuinely comfortable being yourself. If you’re looking for a therapist who will meet you where you are, laugh with you when appropriate, and help you make sense of where you’ve been while figuring out where you want to go next, I’d love to connect.
